3 Ways to Hide From Google

It’s no secret we are being watched by Google.

They take our data and sell it to advertisers who can sell us products especially tailored to our needs and desires.

It is easy to think there is nothing that can be done and therefore we go ahead and continue using these products.

However, there is a way to protect your privacy from Google!

With the growing interest in security on the web, several companies have begun to pop up which offer the same services but are focused on maintaining the privacy of individuals.

Here are some companies that help you hide from Google:

Search Engine

DuckDuckGo

OK, I know what you’re thinking…that is a pretty stupid name.

Yes, I agree. But DuckDuckGo offers the same web searching capabilities as Good without tracking your information.

They do sell advertising, but the ads are based off your immediate search instead of passed inquiries.

Although it might feel weird to ‘google’ things on a different platform, the results are the same, but your info is kept private.

Web Browser

Brave

There are several new(ish) web browsers that are focused on privacy.

Ghostery and Tor are two that come to mind, as does DuckDuckGo’s browser (though it is currently mobile-only). Furthermore, Firefox and Safari have made great strides in protecting information as of late.

However, the most interesting web browser goes by the name Brave.

Brave offers the same search capabilities as Google and, in this writer’s opinion, is a bit more user friendly.

Additionally, Brave has a revenue sharing plan with advertisers which allows you, the user, to win credits which you can send to companies you prefer. This helps you support businesses you prefer free of charge while those same businesses can recoup some of the money they ‘lost’ on ads that are not as ultra-focused as they would be through Google.

Email

ProtonMail

Email software is especially hard to protect. A great concern is not just which company you choose, but the company being used by the person receiving your message.

Protecting your inbox is easy, but you can never really be sure what’s going on down the line.

With that being said, there are several options (at various prices) for encrypting your files.

Runbox, CTemplar and Startmail are just some of the great choices out there, but the best place to begin is with ProtonMail.

ProtonMail has a whole list of great assets which recommend them to people just getting started on a privacy-oriented server.

ProtonMail encrypts messages from end-to-end, including to contacts that use a different email software.

Furthermore, this company has an optional self-destruct email system. This allows you to have the email automatically delete after a designated amount of time.
